Among 2020’s biggest buzzwords—unprecedented, pivotal, virtual—one emerged as a defining factor of Red Hat’s success amidst the chaos: resilience. Earlier this month, our President and CEO Paul Cormier outlined our path for 2021, which is built upon the resilience of our people and technology.

We’re now in the third year of our The State of Enterprise Open Source report in which we probe the use of and attitudes about enterprise open source. This year we conducted interviews with 1,250 IT leaders worldwide. They weren’t necessarily Red Hat customers and were unaware that Red Hat was the sponsor of this survey, helping us to avoid biased or influenced responses.

We regularly publish customer success stories that highlight how we're helping customers gain efficiency and transform the way they deliver software. As the telecommunications industry ramps up its evolution towards cloud-native architectures and containers, communications service providers (CSPs) are working to scale their networks to support increased demand. In this effort, open radio access network (RAN) solutions offer standardized disaggregation of the RAN, decoupling hardware and software, to give CSPs more freedom of choice.

Taking a page from Red Hat president and CEO, Paul Cormier’s post, I’d like to take a moment to recognize what the past year has meant for the partner ecosystem and where we go from here. Not for the first time, we heard Paul explain the importance of partners in Red Hat’s story:

2020’s gone and it won’t be missed. For all of the chaos, confusion and change the previous year brought, it helped illuminate a critical facet of Red Hat, our associates, our partners, our customers and our communities. It showed that we are resilient. Not only did we weather it as a company, we helped those around us stand firm through the storm.

We love welcoming new users into open source, but also get really excited when our customers come back for a second or third helping of Red Hat. This month, we’re highlighting three customers who achieved incremental benefits after adding on more Red Hat products in their environment. When reflecting on 2020, I do what many people do and think about what things were like prior to this year.  For me, I immediately go back to a spring day three years ago. Red Hat was hosting our EMEA Partner Conference; a mix of distributors, independent software vendors (ISVs), system integrators and solution providers from across the region. Alongside the usual product updates and market insight sessions you might expect, we decided to do a little drumming.

When we began contributing to the Kubernetes project at its inception in 2014, we believed the technology would be the future of cloud-native IT. But at that time, I don't think we realized just how impactful Kubernetes would be.

On January 7, 2021, Red Hat announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire StackRox. The acquisition is subject to certain customary closing conditions.

Porsche Informatik recently deployed Red Hat OpenShift to speed application development and delivery and stay competitive in a fast-paced global market. This month, we’re highlighting not just this automotive industry success story, but also customers in the public sector and banking industry that have gained efficiencies by deploying Red Hat OpenShift and adopted a more agile, collaborative DevOps approach along the way.

What a year we’ve had at Red Hat. Since we published Red Hat president and CEO Paul Cormier's message on how Red Hat is here to help, we pivoted in many ways throughout 2020 to best meet our customers' evolving needs, and we used our digital channels—like this blog—to share the latest updates with you. 

Red Hat’s video and animation team kicked off 2020 with lots of exciting projects on the horizon, but like many organizations, the COVID-19 lockdown created unique hurdles for those of us in the creative community who are used to traveling and shooting footage on site.  Like others, we had to adjust to find new ways of collaborating and creating meaningful content despite working remotely.
