Customers count on Red Hat for our enterprise software solutions but also for us to think through questions on security, usability, and accessibility so that Red Hat products start with good defaults and offer useful tools to manage those settings.

Last week, Red Hat and AWS announced the general availability of Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA), a fully managed and jointly supported offering that enables organizations to build, deploy and manage applications with Red Hat OpenShift, delivered as a native AWS service accessible through the AWS Management Console.

Red Hat is a long-time donor and contributor to projects stewarded by the Free Software Foundation (FSF), with hundreds of contributors and millions of lines of code contributed. Considering the circumstances of Richard Stallman’s original resignation in 2019, Red Hat was appalled to learn that he had rejoined the FSF board of directors. As a result, we are immediately suspending all Red Hat funding of the FSF and any FSF-hosted events.

Recently, I worked with a customer in the courier industry whose core logistics scheduling application suffered from reliability, performance, and scalability issues. While I addressed the immediate problems, it was clear that the 20 years of patchwork fixes, enhancements, and technical debt accumulated were the root cause.

It’s been more than two years since Red Hat launched the Apex Partner Program and since that time we have seen bookings growth and increased accreditations among participating partners. As the name suggests, our Apex partners bring a higher level of expertise in application development and integration, hybrid cloud infrastructure and management platforms across the ecosystem.

Red Hat stands with the Asian community, including our associates, their families, and people around the world. Our culture is based on the principles of an open organization, where the best ideas come from anywhere and everyone’s voice is heard. We are joining together to condemn violence against Asian people. Public rhetoric and misinformation has contributed to a dramatic rise in racist incidents against members of the Asian community. We make this statement in support and recognition of all those affected. 

Among 2020’s biggest buzzwords—unprecedented, pivotal, virtual—one emerged as a defining factor of Red Hat’s success amidst the chaos: resilience. Earlier this month, our President and CEO Paul Cormier outlined our path for 2021, which is built upon the resilience of our people and technology.

We’re now in the third year of our The State of Enterprise Open Source report in which we probe the use of and attitudes about enterprise open source. This year we conducted interviews with 1,250 IT leaders worldwide. They weren’t necessarily Red Hat customers and were unaware that Red Hat was the sponsor of this survey, helping us to avoid biased or influenced responses.

As the telecommunications industry ramps up its evolution towards cloud-native architectures and containers, communications service providers (CSPs) are working to scale their networks to support increased demand. In this effort, open radio access network (RAN) solutions offer standardized disaggregation of the RAN, decoupling hardware and software, to give CSPs more freedom of choice.

Taking a page from Red Hat president and CEO, Paul Cormier’s post, I’d like to take a moment to recognize what the past year has meant for the partner ecosystem and where we go from here. Not for the first time, we heard Paul explain the importance of partners in Red Hat’s story:

2020’s gone and it won’t be missed. For all of the chaos, confusion and change the previous year brought, it helped illuminate a critical facet of Red Hat, our associates, our partners, our customers and our communities. It showed that we are resilient. Not only did we weather it as a company, we helped those around us stand firm through the storm.
