While I was studying computer science, the notion of open source was much argued over. Our university professors found the idea playful but approached it from an old-school way where they could not fully grasp how it would fit into a business landscape. We students, on the other hand, found the open source movement empowering. Not only did it provide us with reliable and free tools, it also gave us the chance of contributing to a global community from our small classroom in Algeria.

As x86_64 hardware sees improvements in the area of CPU die size reduction, Red Hat has continued to work with our partners to better enable world class performance. Recently, AMD released its ROME line of processors, known as the AMD Epyc 7002 Series. With a die size of 7nm, AMD has achieved several new performance world records and many of these results have been with workloads running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 and RHEL 8. 

It wasn’t that long ago that open source software was considered an unusual technology choice for enterprise computing. Not so anymore. According to Red Hat’s 2019 State of Enterprise Open Source survey of 950 IT professionals, 68% of respondents said their use of enterprise open source has increased over the past 12 months.

With the launch of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8, the intelligent operating system for the hybrid cloud, at Red Hat Summit 2019, we brought the next-generation of enterprise Linux to our extensive partner ecosystem. Beyond traditional hardware and software providers, this partner network encompasses Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Providers (CCSPs) which includes the majority of major public cloud infrastructure providers.

We’re excited to announce that for the ninth consecutive year, the Red Hat Customer Portal has been named one of the "Top Ten Best Support Websites" by the Association of Support Professionals (ASP). 

The integration of technology into all areas of a business (the "digital transformation" we hear so much about) is fundamentally changing how organizations operate as well as how they deliver value to customers.

Privacy by Design or Privacy by Default (PbD) is not a new concept. However PbD received renewed attention when the GDPR added PbD as a legal requirement. PbD refers to the process of building in technical, organizational and security measures at the beginning stage of product development and throughout the product lifecycle.
